Aikido Yoshinkai NSW (AYNSW) is a full time dojo operating kids and adults classes 6 days a week in Marrickville. The dojo is purpose built (ie not a scout hall) with permanently laid floating floor and tatami mats. It is fully equipped with showers and changing facilities.
Aikido is a traditional martial art of Japan. Its origins trace back to samurai times. The core value of the art is self defense. Students learn through repetition, each task or drill is taught in a step by step manner that students repeat slowly at first and faster as they gain skill and confidence.
AYNSW was founded by Chief Instructor Darren Friend Sensei & Peggy Woo Sensei in 2005. Both these instructors spent more than 10 years each training in Japan at the Yoshinkan Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo where they were on staff.
Yoshinkan Aikido is famous for its robust approach to self defense. The Yoshinkan Headquarters has a long standing contract to train officers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police as part of their preparation for special duties such as riot squad, VIP protection etc.
The dojo is located at 310 Marrickville Rd (Opposite Commonwealth bank)
